A South Florida woman is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say she operated an elaborate scheme in which she allegedly took professional certification exams for other people in exchange for cash. Authorities say Kashaundra Knowles, of Fort Lauderdale, charged approximately $1,000 per exam and allegedly found clients through social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. According to investigators, Knowles allegedly used other people's identification cards and altered her appearance by changing her hairstyle, clothing, makeup, and even disguising herself as a man to impersonate test applicants. One allegation involves an elementary education certification exam. Officials believe at least eight or nine individuals across Florida may have participated in the scheme, with the investigation continuing and additional suspects possible. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the charges, stating that the alleged fraud has the potential to impact the quality of education for students by allowing unqualified individuals to seek professional certification. Knowles has been charged with offenses that include an organized scheme to defraud, and authorities say educators connected to the investigation are also being examined. The SouthSide Signal will continue following this case as additional information becomes available. |
