HOUSTON, TX — A man wanted for murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Houston worker is dead after police say he took his own life as officers moved in to arrest him. According to Houston police, 23-year-old Iddris Umaru was wanted on a murder charge stemming from the shooting death of 39-year-old Sean Bree. Investigators allege Umaru was involved in the deadly attack along with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Axzey Mojica. Authorities confirmed that Mojica has since been arrested and charged with murder. The case centers around the killing of Bree, who police say was shot outside a shopping center where he worked. Family members described Bree as a hardworking man who enjoyed his job and was known for his positive attitude. The tragedy has been especially devastating for Bree's family. During an interview last week, Bree's mother revealed that Sean is the second son she has lost to gun violence in Houston. Her emotional remarks highlighted the lasting pain violent crime leaves behind for families across the city. Police have not yet released specific details regarding the circumstances surrounding Umaru's death, other than confirming that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as officers attempted to take him into custody. With Umaru now deceased, attention turns to the criminal case against Mojica, who remains in custody and faces prosecution in connection with the shooting. Investigators continue to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to Bree's death. For many, the case serves as another painful reminder of the toll gun violence continues to take on Houston families. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers. What We Know
