HOUSTON, TX — Every successful business reaches a point where the small conversations begin turning into opportunities with major organizations. For Houston entrepreneur LaMont "The Waterman" Gilbert, that moment may be arriving.

BottleConnect™, a Houston-developed marketing platform that transforms an ordinary reusable bottle into a dynamic customer engagement tool, has officially begun pursuing what could become its first major professional sports partnership—the returning Houston Comets.

While no agreement has been announced, Gilbert believes the opportunity represents exactly what BottleConnect was built to do.

"This isn't about selling bottled water," Gilbert said. "It's about creating a connection that lasts long after someone leaves the arena."

BottleConnect combines a custom-branded reusable bottle with a dynamic QR code that can be updated at any time without changing the bottle itself. Fans can scan to access exclusive videos, merchandise, ticket offers, sponsor promotions, contests, community events, player content, and much more.

For organizations, the concept turns a simple giveaway into an ongoing marketing platform.

"Most promotional items are forgotten within a day or two," Gilbert explained. "But a reusable bottle stays in someone's car, on their desk, in the gym, or at home. Every time they use it, your brand is right there."

With the Houston Comets preparing for their long-awaited return in 2027, Gilbert believes the timing is ideal to introduce a new way for professional sports organizations to engage with fans while creating additional value for corporate sponsors.

Beyond sports, BottleConnect is designed for businesses, schools, churches, hospitals, nonprofits, dealerships, and community organizations looking to strengthen customer relationships through everyday products.

Gilbert says the Houston Comets represent more than just a potential client.

"They represent the kind of organization BottleConnect was built for—one with passionate fans, strong community ties, and sponsors looking for innovative ways to stay connected."

Whether the Comets ultimately become BottleConnect's first major sports partnership remains to be seen. But one thing is already clear:

Houston's homegrown innovation is beginning to attract the kind of opportunities every entrepreneur works toward.

And if the vision becomes reality, this could be the first of many major organizations to discover that a bottle can be far more than just a bottle.

When the representatives was asked how they found out about this new concept, she answered: "I drunk a bottle of this alkaline water from the medical center, and it was so good I was just trying to reorder honestly. The rest is history.

Sometimes, the biggest catch starts with a single cast.

The biggest catch starts with a single cast. That ending gave me chills honestly. Rooting for The Waterman.

Hoping this leads to more Houston companies getting looks from pro sports orgs. We got talent down here.

A bottle on your desk with a live QR code is basically a billboard that you carry around yourself. That's wild when you think about it.

If the Comets are smart they lock this in before someone else does. Don't sleep on local innovation.

The line about every promo item being forgotten within a day or two is so true. My junk drawer is full of proof.

Would love to know what the price point looks like for smaller organizations like nonprofits. That part caught my attention.

I saw something about BottleConnect a while back and wondered when it was gonna blow up. Looks like now.

Houston keeps producing entrepreneurs who think different. LaMont is a perfect example of that.

Back in the day you got a foam rally towel and that was it. Times have changed and I'm here for it.

The fact that the QR content can be updated any time without reprinting is a huge deal for sponsors. That's real value.

Not sure one rep liking the water is the same as a real partnership but I hope it works out for him.

Medical center alkaline water leading to a potential sports deal is the most Houston origin story ever.

My company does giveaways every quarter and half that stuff gets left at the event. A bottle people actually USE is a better move.

As a Comets fan from the original run this would make the comeback even more special. Please make this happen!

The Waterman nickname hits different now that I know what he's building lol. That's a whole brand right there.

Churches and schools too? This has so many uses beyond sports. Hope they market it wider.

Cool idea but I'd want to know how many people actually scan those QR codes after day one. That's the real question.

A reusable bottle that stays connected to the brand long after the game? That's actually way smarter than a foam finger.

    TomB_77· Jul 14, 12:56 AM

I work in corporate sponsorships and this is exactly the kind of ROI story sponsors want to hear. Smart pitch.

The part about the representative finding out because she was just trying to reorder alkaline water is SO Houston lol

I mean it's not a done deal yet so let's not pop the champagne. But the concept is solid no doubt.

The QR code that updates without changing the bottle is actually genius. Why hasn't anyone done this before?
