Matchup news and insights on NC State Wolfpack basketball

The Texas Longhorns basketball team is set to face the NC State Wolfpack in the First Four matchup in Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday.

Both teams, seeded No. 11, will battle for the opportunity to advance and play the No. 6 seed in the West Region.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. Central Time at UD Arena, with the game broadcast on truTV.

This encounter marks the second meeting between Texas and NC State this season.

In their previous matchup during the Maui Invitational last November, Texas secured a 102-97 victory, a significant win in the early tenure of head coach Sean Miller.

Reflecting on that game, Miller noted, "It was a hard-fought battle that showcased our team's resilience."

Since that November game, both teams have experienced fluctuating fortunes.

Texas concluded the regular season with an 18-14 overall record and a 9-9 mark in conference play.

The Longhorns faced challenges down the stretch, including a 105-85 loss to Arkansas on March 4, where they struggled defensively against a high-powered Razorbacks offense.

Despite these setbacks, Texas demonstrated potential with a notable 76-70 victory over Texas A&M on February 28, highlighting their capability to compete against strong opponents.

On the other hand, NC State, under first-year head coach Will Wade, finished the season with a 20-13 record and a 10-8 standing in the ACC.

The Wolfpack showed promise in the ACC Tournament, securing a win over Pitt before falling to Virginia.

Wade emphasized the team's growth, stating, "Our players have shown remarkable development and determination throughout the season."

As both teams prepare for this crucial matchup, the stakes are high.

The winner will advance to face the No. 6 seed in the West Region, adding further significance to this contest.

Fans can anticipate an intense and competitive game as the Longhorns and Wolfpack vie for their spot in the next round of the tournament.
